Yvette and Andy wanted their wedding to not only represent them as a couple but also their friends, family and most importantly their three gorgeous children. So, when they approached us to help them plan their family-focused summer fete wedding in London and Hertfordshire, we jumped at the chance to get involved.
The London couple decided to get married at Rosslyn Chapel in Hampstead – a stone’s throw from their home, and Unitarian allowing them to have the ceremony that they wanted in front of their 200 plus guests.
North Hill Farm in Hertfordshire was the chosen reception venue and it was the perfect setting for their summer wedding with its large fields, accommodation and camping on site, and the most amazing countryside views.
When it came to attire, both Yvette and Andrew wanted to dress up but they also wanted to be comfortable. Yvette wanted something pretty, fun and unusual and Candy Anthony proved to be the perfect designer. Andy decided on a relaxed suit by Ted Baker which suited the wedding perfectly.
A lot of thought went into the ceremony and the music as this was a huge priority for the couple. They wrote their own ceremony to ensure that it was truly personal to them both and were able to enlist the help of their roster of talented friends to perform. Their neighbour, pianist Dorian Ford played for them together with The Jazzberries (who masterminded all the music on the day) and Sara Spade, aka The Ukulele Lady. After the very special ceremony, which involved all of the children (80 in total) in the congregation, Yvette and Andrew and their own children walked out to a jazzed up version of ‘Bring me sunshine’ by Morecambe and Wise which was the perfect end to a wonderful ceremony and made everyone smile.
Yvette and Andrew wanted the quintessential summer’s day and they certainly got this with the weather – it was the hottest day of the year!
As guests arrived at North Hill Farm, they were greeted by the sight of three large tipis on the hill, surrounded by a field of bell tents in anticipation for guests later in the evening. The tipis totally set the scene for the vintage summer fete complete with bunting and fairy lights and surrounded by decorated hay bales and vintage furniture.
The wedding was full of activities for young and old from the moment guests stepped foot on the farm to the moment their heads touched their pillows at night and it was all expertly captured by photographer Laura Babb.
To kick-start the summer fete, a family sports day took place in the afternoon complete with sack races, wheelbarrow racing and welly wanging. Once the medals were handed out, the children were further entertained by a bouncy castle, giant garden games, children’s entertainer, roving magician and pop-up cinema which were all overseen by professional child carers, Safe and Sound.
It wasn’t just the children who were entertained, Yvette and Andrew made sure that the adults were too with a cake competition, Morris Dancing, Fire Performers and live jazz taking guests into the evening.
For dinner, guests were led into the tipis and invited to find their seat via colourful pinwheels – one for each guest. The tables were beautifully styled with vintage linens and crockery and cute personal name pegs creating an eye-catching and quirky display.
The catering was provided by a local delicatessen, Dallings, and they pulled out all the stops to create a veritable feast for guests comprising beautiful seafood and meat platters, tortillas and salads. They were also on hand with champagne and jugs of rum and ginger beer with lots of ice and mint.
Instead of wedding gifts, Yvette and Andrew opted to ask guests to donate to an inspirational primary school, which they support in a poor area of Burma. They managed to raise £6000 on the day and this was a lovely and selfless personal touch.
As night fell, guests sat and sang round the campfire before retiring to the bell tents in the adjoining field.
