This week, my husband and I will be celebrating our fourth wedding anniversary and with this in mind, today I’ll be sharing my own wedding on the blog.
As a wedding planner, I often get asked what my wedding was like, which suppliers I used and if I planned the whole day myself, and so today, I will share all.
We got married in early December at luxury country house hotel, Stoke Place in Buckinghamshire. I had assisted at a wedding there a couple of years previously and loved the uniqueness of the different spaces.
It really worked for us as a venue as we were able to have it exclusively and the majority of our guests could stay on site.
On the morning of the wedding, my bridesmaids and I all got ready in the bridal suite, enjoying music and champagne as the fabulous Lina Cameron did our make-up and Sev and Ros from The Hepburn Collection styled our hair. I remember Sev saying to me at one point that I was far too relaxed for a planner and wasn’t I worried about what was going on downstairs.
Luckily for me, one of my industry friends had her own wedding planning business at the time and we had hired her for On the Day Coordination so I knew there was nothing for me to worry about.
The ceremony took place in the Ballroom at Stoke Place and we used ghost chairs from Great Hire and a white aisle runner to really brighten the space and detract from the ‘wild’ carpet.
Chantal Flores is a florist who I really admire and I have worked with her on a number of occasions and she really was the only person I wanted to use for our wedding flowers. Working closely we came up with a design that would work well for both eh ceremony and the wedding breakfast to really maximize the usage of the flowers.
I wanted to incorporate some Swarovski crystals into the design and create a focal point at the altar and so we came up with the idea of a series of hanging floral and crystal wreath chandeliers using white orchids and hydrangea – it looked magical.
I walked down the aisle on my father’s arm wearing a Peter Langner dress and my bridesmaids were in navy Maids to Measure dresses. My husband, his Best Men and Ushers all wore bespoke Mark Powell suits in navy to complement the bridesmaids and play to the navy, white and silver colour scheme.
After saying ‘I do’ we signed the register and The Rockabellas appeared singing a capella down the aisle to entertain guests whilst we did the formalities.
Following the ceremony, our photographer, Julia Boggio took us outside for some photos by the lake whilst guests enjoyed music, drinks and canapés on the terrace. We were really lucky with the weather and so guests actually spent most of the time outside enjoying the balmy December day.
Prior to dinner, guests were invited to walk through a garden of trees to find their hanging silver heart name place prior to dinner.
Once inside the main ballroom, the room had been transformed into a luxury dining area with mirrored tabletops, ghost chairs, menus and place cards by Cutture and beautiful florals.
Fancy dress is something that people associate us with and so we named each table after a fancy dress item and placed a fancy dress hat on each person’s chair as an element of fun and to double up as a favour.
During dinner we brought in a surprise performer to entertain guests. This was great as it had people up on their feet dancing even before the main course had been served creating a real party atmosphere.
Following dinner we held the speeches and then cut our cake. This was a gorgeous Temari Ball creation by Makis cakes and is one of the highlights of the wedding for me – it was beautiful.
Once the formalities were complete we opened up the ballroom doors to start the evening reception.
Entertainment was a huge part of the wedding for us so we had both a band and a DJ perform, as well as bringing in Shoot Boutique to provide a photo booth for us.
The wedding officially ended at 1am, and we provided all guests with milk and cookies before retiring to the resident’s bar to continue the party!
We wanted a wedding which celebrated our love for one another and our love for our friends and family, and we thought about our guests at every stage of the planning which is something that I tell my clients to do now.
