A Luxury Christmas Wedding in London

Tiffanie and James were living in Georgia in the United States when they contacted Just Bespoke looking for a wedding planner to help them plan their London wedding.

James is British, Tiffanie is American and they felt that London was the most ideal place to host their celebrations. Planning a destination wedding is never easy and so they relied on our knowledge and expertise to guide them through the process – we didn’t actually meet in person until the week of the wedding despite numerous Skype calls during the planning process!

After setting eyes on the Painted Hall at the The Royal Naval College in Greenwich, they knew that they ‘had’ to get married there. However, they were also drawn to the luxury and grandeur of Claridge’s – known around the world as one of London’s most iconic luxury hotels. Faced with the difficult decision of choosing between two very different venues, we decided to use them both and create two very distinct feels for their wedding as the celebrations progressed.

They wanted to create a wedding which was elegant, opulent, and uniquely British – and something which couldn’t be replicated in America. The colour palette was monochrome with hints of blush pink and metallic to complement the two venues.

Leading London florists, By Appointment Only Design, were charged with creating florals for the two venues.  For the ceremony at The Painted Hall they created domes of Columbian hydrangea, avalanche, akito and o’hara roses, freesias and peonies in tall vases together with an abundance of candles.  While at Claridge’s they installed opulent and full high table centres, votives and bud vases, all containing the same variety of flowers, as well as decorating the fireplace with an abundance of matching florals too.

They wanted a winter wedding so the big day took place on the eve of New Year’s Eve. As guests arrived for the late afternoon ceremony, they were greeted with monogrammed personalised coffee cups filled with coffee, hot chocolate and warm spiced apple to represent the couple’s love of Starbucks – and the place where they first met.

The wedding was intimate with fewer than 50 people in attendance which allowed Tiffanie and James to really spoil their guests. As they finished saying their personalised vows, the Urban Soul Collective sang some of the couple’s favourite and most meaningful songs while drinks and canapés were served.  Following this, guests were handed miniature bottles of champagne and led outside to watch a firework display prior to heading off on a Routemaster Bus for a tour of London by night en route to Claridge’s.

Claridge’s at Christmas is always a beautiful sight and the festive décor made a beautiful backdrop for some stunning photography, captured expertly by Paul White Weddings, including iconic shots of the Bride & Groom next to the Claridge’s Christmas tree – styled by McQueens.

Tiffanie wore a beautiful lace dress by Rivini, complete with sparkly waist belt. And, as a massive fan of Sex and the City, she chose to wear Carrie Bradshaw’s infamous blue Manolo Blahnik shoes. The bridesmaids wore Monique Lhuillier dresses which complemented the colour palette and the Groom and Groomsmen all hired their suits from Austin Reed.

Inside the Drawing Room, the table settings were glamorous comprising gold sequinned table linens from US linen stalwarts La Tavola – brought over by the Bride’s mother – clear beaded charger plates, ivory Chandelle chairs from Great Hire and lots of mercury and clear glass vases and votives by the BAOD team. The place settings and menus were kept simple and classic and were provided by Claridge’s.

As well as planning the wedding day, we were also charged with creating a series of events in the lead up to the wedding day to include a welcome dinner at The Covent Garden Hotel, a bridal shower afternoon tea at The Berkeley, a private capsule on the London Eye and a walking tour of London, as well as an informal rehearsal dinner and private bowling at Bloomsbury Bowl.

We love working with clients from overseas and enjoyed every minute of Tiffanie and James’ wedding planning and celebrations. We have lots of experience in UK destination weddings so if you are overseas and are looking to get married here then please do get in touch to see how we can help.
