Katie’s job involves putting on large sporting events for audiences across the world and so it was no surprise that she wanted her wedding to be the biggest show of her life so far. Every detail of the wedding was meticulously planned.
Having lived in the county all her life, Katie wanted an Essex wedding. The family home, with extensive grounds, beautiful gardens and a secluded location, seemed the perfect place for her and Dan to celebrate their marriage.
They wanted a bright, colourful and personal wedding day full of friends and family, fun and laughter and lots of entertainment.
On the morning of the wedding, the dark skies looked menacing and threw the summer garden party reception into doubt. However as Katie and her bridesmaids were having their hair and make-up done, and we were busy putting the final touches to the marquee, the clouds lifted and the sun shone through just as Katie prepared to leave for the church.
Growing up in Brentwood, the couple decided to get married at Katie’s local church, St Mary’s of Great Warley. As guests arrived they were handed Orders of Service and colourful confetti cones before entering the church to see a mass of beautiful florals created by Jades Flowers.
Katie arrived by Rolls Royce and walked down the aisle to the tune of the organ signalling the start of the ceremony.
A few months before the wedding, Katie and her father had seen an amazing gospel choir perform in London and immediately they knew that they wanted them involved in the wedding day. After tracking them down, the London Community Gospel Choir performed in the church and raised the roof creating the perfect atmosphere to kick off the afternoon reception.
Following the service, guests were transported to the reception venue by coach whilst Katie and Dan were whisked away by photographer Paul White for some couple shots.
Back at the reception, guests were handed champagne, pimms and canapés as they made their way into the back garden of the house for the drinks reception. Here they were transported into an English garden party complete with traditional ice cream seller and jazz trio. Throughout the garden were lots of small decorative touches including wicker hearts, large ‘love’ signs and photos of the Bride and Groom to create a very personal feel.
Legendary sports announcer, John McDonald – a close friend of the family – acted as MC throughout the wedding, and called guests into the marquee for dinner.
Once inside they were greeted with a beautifully bright space complete with pink and purple pom poms, which complemented the beautiful florals on each of the tables.
Each table was named after places memorable to Katie and Dan, and they were dressed with white linens complete with white napkins tied by satin ribbons to complement the colour scheme. There was also a round chalkboard mat at each setting, with the guests’ names handwritten in bold colours to create real impact.
Local Essex caterers, Chimneys, provided the wedding breakfast and they ensured that guests were suitably fed and watered throughout the evening.
Once the dinner had been served, it was time to cut the statement Choccywoccydoodah cake before the evening entertainment started. Katie and Dan opted for the ‘All You Need is Love’ cake and it created a great focal point in the marquee during the wedding breakfast.
The evening party will be remembered for the diverse, high quality entertainment, which had guests on their feet dancing until the early hours. The London Community Gospel Choir kick-started the evening, before Abba tribute band, Abba Revival took over. They were then followed by Blue Groove, a fantastic party band who created a buzzing atmosphere before DJ Max Mistry took to the decks for the closing set.
