Did you know that as well as weddings, we also organize parties? No matter how intimate or grand the occasion, we have experience planning all manner of events from engagement parties through to birthday parties, bar and bat mitzvahs through to baby showers.
For today’s post, I thought I would share an event that is very close to my own heart – my daughter’s first birthday party.
It’s so hard to know what to do for a baby’s first birthday. They’re too little to really know what is going on, but at the same time, you want to do something to mark the occasion.
We settled on a bunny theme and held the party at our home. The brilliant Jo Hughes was on hand to take pictures throughout the day which really capture the atmosphere.
After several trips to local farms, my daughter has seen a fair few animals and so I thought it would be fun to get some bunnies along on the day for the children to pet. This proved to be such a great activity for everyone big and small, and we ended up with a whole array of animals from rabbits and meerkats to an owl and even a Shetland Pony all taking refuge on our driveway for the afternoon!
Hip Hip Hooray created some great bunny-themed invitations in a pink, purple and grey colour palette which were sent to guests a couple of months in advance, and these colours set the tone for the styling of the party.
We used a local caterer, Mustard, to provide all of the adult food on the day – everything from pulled pork and rice to sausage rolls and gourmet sandwiches – whilst we made food for the children. I wanted it to feel stylish but still like a children’s party.
We incorporated some cute bunny-themed ideas from paper carrots on sticks which contained crisps, through to bunny-shaped sandwiches and mini plant pots containing humus and carrots. We also had the most amazing cake from Fondant Fox and the Meringue Girls complete with meringue kisses, iced bunnies and edible flowers – it was a real showstopper!
On the day itself, guests were guided up the garden path by bunny signs and were then welcomed at the door by a large bunny-shaped wreath created by talented florist Chantal Flores.
Inside, we kept the main spaces undecorated (albeit for a mountain of toys to entertain the children), and instead decorated the hallway to create a cool bunny-themed children’s food table and party bag table which was flanked by two giant helium balloons with garland tassels.
As the children left, they were all given a little goody box to take home complete with some bunny-shaped chocolates and Easter eggs.
If you have a celebration coming up and want to chat to us about how we can help, please don’t hesitate to get in touch to discuss your requirements further.
